"I Have a Dream" field trip to the top of the mountain

This monument at "The top of the mountain" is a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. This inspiring view, inspiring words lasered on the rocks and the comfortable environment lend itself to social studies classes.

It is perfect for a simulated "I have a dream" student speech. Students could use the format of the "I have a dream" speech to perhaps imagine a Los Angeles that had clean air and ended lung and heart diseases for (especially) the poor of LA. Any topic in "The dream" format given to their class on the blue bench near the memorial would be an uplifting experience. Seating is on the grass and numerous benches.

sample pre trip prompt:

Study the format that MLK used in his speech "I have a dream" (see rock above) Use the phrase repetition "I have a dream to amplify the things that your dream will change in the world to create a better place. You only need to make your dream 3 paragraphs long minimum (see above example on the memorial rock) but you need to practice using your voice as MLK did! You may read what you wrote but will receive extra credit for memorizing your dream! You will be presenting standing on a bench at the memorial park.
